As Christians, we believe that everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Enter a miraculous concept—God adopts us as His children! For those who have no earthly children, what could be a more fitting parallel? God’s plan for building your family could be similar to when God integrates those who call on His name into His family (Romans 4:6).

Those who have accepted Christ have been adopted by God (Rom. 10:13) into His forever family. In Ephesians 1:5, the theme appears again as the Scripture describes how Christians have been “predestined for adoption” through Jesus. Isn’t it amazing how the promises of God work?

Meditating on this truth of adoption brings me hope. It encourages me that I am part of a cause that is far greater than myself. God’s plan for my life is so much more than I could ever possibly comprehend, and I gladly, willingly, submit to it, knowing that He cares for me and provides for all of my needs.

I’m glad that I don’t have to be a biological parent to get God’s favour. I consider how people like Mother Teresa and countless saints throughout the ages served Jesus faithfully without having children or even getting married! Priests in the Catholic Church, though there have been scandals, have for the most part been celibate. It is totally possible to not have children and to be used by God in incredible ways.
